The company operated a healthcare directory and ranking platform focused on doctors and clinics across the United States. The platform aggregated large healthcare databases, organized listings by state, city, and specialization, and relied heavily on strong SEO performance to generate traffic and visibility. The client approached us after their existing infrastructure and environments became unstable. Their production website had been critically damaged, forcing them to temporarily use a development environment as a live production system. Our role was to stabilize the platform, restore operational reliability, and prepare the project for scalable future development.
Challenge
The client’s platform had reached a critical level of instability after years of incremental changes and fragmented development. What was meant to be a structured healthcare directory system had turned into a highly complex and inconsistent WordPress-based environment with multiple overlapping versions of the website, unclear deployment states, and no reliable source of truth for what was actually running in production.
At the core of the issue was a massive and poorly structured database containing millions of healthcare listings. Over time, different environments and copies of the system had been created without proper synchronization, which led to data inconsistency and uncertainty about which version of the data or codebase was current. The production environment itself had become unstable to the point where it was no longer safe to operate, forcing the team to temporarily rely on a development instance as a live system.
On top of that, there was no clear version control workflow in place, and multiple hosting environments existed in parallel without proper governance. This made even small changes risky, as it was difficult to predict how updates would affect other parts of the system. The lack of structured DevOps practices and infrastructure planning meant that the platform could not scale reliably despite having significant traffic driven by strong SEO performance.
Overall, the main challenge was not just fixing broken functionality, but bringing order to a deeply fragmented ecosystem where infrastructure, data, and deployment processes had drifted out of control and required stabilization before any further development or scaling could be safely done.
Solution
We began by auditing the entire system architecture and identifying the most stable version of both the website and database.
Key actions included:
- Stabilized the existing WordPress platform and restored operational reliability
- Fixed critical database and WordPress-related errors
- Extracted and secured a stable production-ready version of the platform
- Helped the client introduce Git-based version control workflows
- Structured proper development and production environments
- Planned migration from traditional shared hosting to scalable cloud infrastructure
- Prepared the system for future scalability and improved traffic handling
As part of the long-term modernization strategy, we also evaluated two future development directions:
- Full rebuild using modern technologies such as Laravel, Nuxt.js, and Elasticsearch
- Migration to eDirectory as an enterprise-ready directory platform
We additionally assisted the client during the evaluation of eDirectory by preparing and organizing their database for migration testing inside a live enterprise demo environment.
