SmartRev is a plugin developed for Directus CMS that helps businesses onboard their clients faster and with less manual input. The plugin was designed to be distributed publicly and complies with Directus marketplace standards.
Challenge
The project was developed under strict technical and architectural constraints defined by the Directus ecosystem. As the solution had to be built and distributed as an official Directus plugin, the team had limited freedom in choosing the technology stack, UI patterns, and overall architecture. Every implementation detail needed to comply with Directus extension guidelines and marketplace requirements. In addition, the plugin was expected to significantly improve client onboarding without adding complexity to the user experience. Automating onboarding processes while keeping the interface intuitive and lightweight required a careful balance between functionality, usability, and platform limitations. Passing the official Directus Marketplace review was also a critical requirement, leaving no room for experimental or non-compliant approaches.
Solution
We developed a fully Directus-compatible plugin using Vue.js and Node.js, strictly following the platform’s extension architecture and publishing guidelines. The solution introduced an AI-powered onboarding chat designed to guide end users through the setup process in a clear and conversational way. The plugin analyzes a client’s website, extracts relevant business and project information, and automatically pre-fills onboarding fields within Directus. Instead of completing long forms manually, users only need to review and confirm the suggested data, dramatically reducing setup time and friction. The final result was a streamlined onboarding experience that met Directus marketplace standards while delivering real, measurable value to end users.
