Blueprint Accounting, a Canadian firm, uses KarbonHQ to manage client tasks and workflows. To optimize daily operations, they initiated the development of Karbon Shortcuts - a Chrome Extension and supporting web dashboard designed to make Karbon faster and easier to use. The client had already created a prototype using LovableAI and Supabase, but needed engineering expertise to stabilize and expand functionality. Our role included improving the extension, implementing advanced features, and setting up scalable billing through Stripe.
Challenge
Karbon CRM, widely used by Blueprint Accounting for task and client management, lacked convenient navigation and shortcuts, which slowed down daily workflows. The client had already experimented with a prototype Chrome Extension built from a mix of native JavaScript, HTML, and partial React components, but the fragmented architecture limited scalability and further improvements. In addition, the system provided no support for reusable email snippets or advanced communication features, which were critical for efficient client correspondence. Finally, a secure subscription model with Stripe integration was required to monetize the tool. At the same time, development had to stay flexible and adapt to the client’s preferred on-demand collaboration style.
Solution
The team supported the client in building and extending Karbon Shortcuts, delivering:
- Sidebar integration for the extension, allowing users to open it directly within Karbon.
- Event analytics setup to track user actions and guide further improvements.
- Email snippets system with dynamic text variables for faster communication.
- Planned Stripe integration to enable subscription billing and payment stability.
- Companion web dashboard for subscription management and snippet libraries.
